Metabolic Syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. These conditions include increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. Having just one of these conditions doesn't mean you have Metabolic Syndrome, but any of these conditions increases the risk of serious disease.
The syndrome is closely linked to obesity and inactivity. The primary factors involved in Metabolic Syndrome include: Insulin Resistance: The body's cells don't respond well to insulin, leading to higher blood sugar levels. Central Obesity: Excess fat, particularly around the abdomen, is a significant risk factor. Dyslipidemia: Abnormal levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Hypertension: High blood pressure is common in people with Metabolic Syndrome. Proinflammatory and Prothrombotic States: Increased inflammation and a tendency toward blood clotting are also associated with the syndrome.
